The epic adventure begins now! We are pleased to officially launch Dead Cells, the first Rogue-Lite board game, in stores!
Manuel Sanchez, Director of Studio Scorpion Masqué, explains: "A year and a half after the Kickstarter campaign, and after delivering to over 10,000 backers, the long-awaited moment is here: the arrival of Dead Cells in stores! We've been blown away by the initial reactions to the game itself, and to the game's reception in Vichy and Essen! As an early fan of Rogue-Lites in video games, this is the kind of adaptation I've always dreamed of playing. I think it's an original and unique offer in the board game world. That people understand the concept and embrace it with such enthusiasm is really great to see! Once again, thank you to the Kaedama team for bringing this project to life with us."
The Motion Twin team adds: “We're delighted to see the Dead Cells universe come to life in a new form with this board game. The attention to detail, both in the aesthetics of the product and in the implementation of the Rogue-Lite formula of the original, impresses and touches us deeply."
But that's not all! In addition to its in-store release, we are proud to announce the development of a digital version of Dead Cells: The Rogue-Lite board game in collaboration with the successful online board game platform, Board Game Arena.
Alexandre Schlecht, Director of Board Game Arena, shares: "Dead Cells is an iconic video game that I've spent many hours on. It was therefore with great interest that I personally followed the launch and financing of this project. The work of the designers, illustrators, and publisher is remarkable. It perfectly transcribes the mechanics and atmosphere of the video game into a board game.
At Board Game Arena, we're committed to sharing the best board games with our community of gamers (over 10M registered players). So it's with great pleasure and pride that we can announce that the digital adaptation of the board game from the video game, Dead Cells, is now up and running - coming full circle, as it were. You'll be able to explore the various biomes, use your cells to upgrade your weapons and abilities, and try out new games or other paths. In this way, we hope to bring together board game players and also attract those who already have hundreds of runs under their belts in video games. The addition of such a license is obviously an important step for us, and we're putting all our attention and effort into making sure it does justice to this jewel. This is our first major IP, and it could open the door to other major licenses."
The Dead Cells board game will provide an intense Rogue-lite cooperative gaming experience inspired by the Metroidvania genre, playable from 1 to 4 players, for games lasting around 45 minutes.
Explore. Kill. Die. Mutate. Play again.
The digital version of the game is scheduled for release in early 2025 on Board Game Arena. Premium players will initially have access to the first 2 biomes and the first Boss. All other content will be added to the platform progressively throughout the year.
Dead Cells: the Rogue-Lite board game is designed by Antoine Bauza, Corentin Lebrat, Ludovic Maublanc, Théo Rivière and published by Scorpion Masqué. It is illustrated by Naïade, Laure de Châteaubourg, Robin Lagofun and Paul Vérité.
It is now available in English in the UK, USA, Canada, and Australia at a price of 85 Euros / $84.99 USD / $114.99 CAD. Other versions are expected to follow!
